What is Itchy Scalp:
Itchy scalp is a condition when your hair skin itches a lot. Now almost 52% people are having itchy scalp. Usually the age is not a factor in this scenario because my little nephew was having extreme itchy scalp situation and after consulting with the doctor we came to know that he was having some fungal infection going on in his scalp. This scratching can lead to many other severe situations. So, before going into any in depth review, try to find out the causes.
Causes Of Itchy Scalp:

Dandruff:
It is also called seborrhea. You will notice a white powder like thing on your scalp. This is called flakes. Sometimes you see it on television with the advertisement of shampoo. If dandruff occurs they will cause flakiness and itching. This is the most widespread causes of itchy scalp. Almost 73% adults are suffering from dandruff issues. Eczema, dry scalp or sebaceous cyst can easily cause dandruff and leads to itchy scalp.

Parasites:
It is generally called head lice. Head lice surround on our scalp and they suck blood from our scalp. When they walk on our scalp surface it itches a lot. It is a very imperative matter to remove head lice. As it causes harm to us by sucking blood from our head. If you notice some white specks on our hair those are eggs and nits or lice. They are a bit shiny to look at. Lice can lead to many prone diseases. Even due to head lice you can encounter extreme fever and you should be careful about this.

Excessive dirt from air:
Dirt, dirt everywhere, not a place to hide (LOL). You may think I am joking but this is the truth. Dirt stays on your scalp and causes itchiness. It can lead to many other problems as well.

Salt water:
Salt water often causes itchiness. My grandpa lives in a coastal area with a long beach view. He also had an irritating itchy scalp. First he thought he was having parasites but nope his itchiness occurred due to the salt from the beach water.

Fungal infection:
One type of fungal infection is malassezia. This is a microscopic fungus. There is also ringworm which can be called parasitic fungi. You will notice brown or reddish bump on your scalp. You will also notice the gray scale area and bumps filled with pus. Hair loss also occurs due to this fungus.

Sweat on the scalp:
Sweat leads to itchy skin because it invites the fungi which are not seen in the air.
I have given you a simple but effective idea about what are itchy scalp and the causes of it. Now it is high time that I should give you some solution to get rid of this problem.
Home Remedies For Itchy Scalp:
Below I will attach the factors which I usually tried and tested and gather as much as information from my near ones.
OIL FACTOR:
Oil is an important element to reduce itchiness. There can be many solutions through oil.
- First make some oil mixture. This is a traditional method. Take the same amount of coconut oil and almond oil in a bowl. E.g. If you take 1 tbsp of coconut oil then add in it 1 tbsp of almond oil. Apply oil 2 hours before you go to shower.
I especially prefer to use almond oil with coconut oil. You must warm up your oil mixture. Be careful. Don’t use hot oil. You can use lukewarm oil on your scalp.
- First take half cup of coconut oil, and then add to it some Alma, hibiscus flower and a little amount of fenugreek. Now warm the mixture. And apply it on your scalp when it is lukewarm in nature.
- Neem oil is another famous thing which can reduce the effect of itchiness. Mix 1 teaspoon of neem oil with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil. Or you can measure the product my using ¾ portion of neem oil and ¼ portion of coconut oil. Heat the oil mixture and after it cools down apply it onto the scalp. Neem oil is one active ingredient which soothes your scalp from any irritating situation.
- Sesame seed oil is a life saver. The cooling and nourishment properties make it the best oil to make your itchiness gone and also help to make your hair thick and shiny. Heat up the oil and after cooling it down apply the mixture. Use sesame seed oil 3 times a week and you will obviously see the difference.
Massage your scalp with the aforesaid oil mixture. As dandruff occurs due to dry skin and it is important to massage your scalp. By doing massage it will increase your blood circulation of the head.
- Dandruff reducing solution- Before going to sleep, soak some fenugreek in oil. Then in the morning make a smooth paste out of that oil mixture. Then apply it on your scalp and massage it gently. Repeat this method for at least 2 times a week. You will have less amount of dandruff after using this method.
After using each aforesaid method try to use some lime juice on your scalp. Just keep the lime juice only for 5 to 10 minutes depending on the sensitivity issues. Lime juice is the key factor in reducing dandruff. You can substitute lime juice with lemon juice.
ONION JUICE:
Onion has some antiseptic agent which helps to reduce dandruff and itchiness in your hair. Coarsely chop handsome amount of onion and extract the juice out of it. Apply the onion juice onto your scalp. Apply to the place where there’s less amount of hair. Onion juice is filled with anti-bacterial properties as well as Vitamin B6 & C which nourishes your hair. Apply onion juice 5 times a week and onion juice is best for hair growth but at the same time it reduces itchiness.
SORE YOGURT:
You can also use sore yogurt on your scalp. Sore yogurt helps to reduce flakiness and itching dilemma. Yogurt helps to make your scalp light and also reduced dandruff to a much greater extent.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:
It is being said that apple cider vinegar contains anti-bacterial agent. It helps to reduce the redness of itching sensation. Take some apple cider vinegar and dab a cotton ball and apply it on your scalp. The anti-fungal agent will diminish the itchiness.
LEMON:
Lemon is a traditional natural ingredient which helps to reduce many diseases. Apply lemon juice on your hair and scalp with cotton ball. Keep it only for 5minutes. If you keep it for a long time the acid residing in lemon may damage your hair skin! By using lemon it will reduce the parasites, fungi and dandruff.
TEA TREE OIL:
Anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and soothing properties make tea tree oil one of the best remedies against itchy scalp. Tea tree oil helps clear the clogged pores on your scalp which ultimately leads to other related problems. The using method varies, some people directly use undiluted tea tree oil but I would suggest not as this is extremely a strong property.
First method is use the tea tree oil dilutes in any carrier oil like coconut oil, sesame seed oil, almond oil. Then apply the oil mixture and massage it gently.
Secondly, you can make solution by using 5 to 6 drops of oil on some water. Use it as a rinse after shampooing.
Lastly, if you are too lazy and can’t do the aforesaid ones than you can buy any tea tree oil shampoo and use it when you are feeling extreme itchiness.
HEAD LICE SHAMPOO:
If parasites are residing on your hair or scalp than you can use head lice shampoo. This will reduce the amount of lice through chemical. Permethrin resides in the head lice shampoo which helps to kill lice. Use the shampoo till all your eggs have disappeared from your hair. Another home remedy is that Mayonnaise. This one ingredient is the reaper of lice from your head. Use mayonnaise 2 times a week and you will ultimately get benefit from it.
BALANCED DIET:
Balanced diet is a must. Too much oil containing food can do harm to your scalp. So, try to avoid fatty food and gallop fish, fruits, fresh vegetables. Don’t forget to drink at least 1 glass of lime juice. Also you can take medication which contains vitamin A, C and E. The itchiness will diminish by following a good chart of diet.
